Stronger Together

One of my favorite ways to dig into scripture is writing it down and pulling out key elements from those verses or looking up commentary when I need help understanding what is being said. For my scripture writing, I follow Shannon over at her blog Sweet Blessings.

This month’s topic is on RELATIONSHIPS and there is always so much to learn. As I was doing my Scripture Writing this morning, I read the following verses:

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭4:9-12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I also decided to read some commentary on verse 12 (biblestudytools.com), and with that, it really opened my eyes to unity.

God didn’t create us to be hermits or keep to ourselves, if we were to do that then we would never grow and we would never be able to be a part of helping others grow. We all play a distinct role in one another’s lives, whether it is for the good or bad. Closing ourselves off when we are hurting, wounded, sad, angry, confused, or lost can lead to a life full of even more misery. The devil wants us to segregate ourselves off and likes it when we think that no one would ever understand or would help.
That is how he goes about his steal, kill, and destroy technic.
But IN GOD’S WORD He tells us that we are BETTER TOGETHER. That together we get twice the return off our labor. Together we can pick each other up. Together we help keep warm when we are cold. And together we help defend ourselves from the devil’s army.

“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
As two are better than one, more than two is even better. Having a tight-knit group of Godly friends that you know you can trust and turn to in times of adversity, can be such a major blessing. Together the walls against the enemy stand higher and stronger. That is why it is so important to pick and hang on to friends that will stick by your side when things are not just going great but in times that everything seems to fall apart.
Having a cord of three strands that come unwoven, is practically worthless. God is the glue that keeps everything together, we need Him in our relationships to make them grow and to stay.
God is our ultimate strength against the devil and when we seek His help, He will never fail us.
